How to thrive at work

Focus on these 3 areas

I talk a lot about thriving at work - but what does that really mean?

To me, it looks like:

  • Enjoying work more often than you dread it

  • Hitting flow state of full engagement once (or more) a day

  • Ending the day energized, even when you’re also exhausted

I’m not promising you zero stress, infinite happiness, or retiring by 35.

I’m empowering you to be proactive, confident, and optimistic at work - things we need more of in our increasingly cynical world.

Read on if you’re ready to thrive at work again.

3 keys to thriving at work:

#1: Purpose (your north star, your why)

This is your motivation.

It makes things worthwhile (even when they’re hard).

  • Start by reflecting on your values, strengths, and interests.

  • Define it as your superpower + the problems you solve (“To [action], so that [impact]”).

  • Use it to:

    • Inspire and unite your team.

    • Build a long-term career vision.

    • Invest in skills that matter to you.

    • Get out of bed even when you don’t want to.

Mine is: To help people better connect to themselves, so that they can better connect to the world around them.

#2: Profit (your impact, your what)

This is your aspiration.

It tells you what’s working (and what’s not).

  • Start by defining your goals (hint: check back with your purpose).

  • Build your strategy to get where you want to go with clear measures of success (that mean something to you).

  • Use it to:

    • Track your progress.

    • Work within your resources constraints.

    • Get out of your own way and into action.

    • Differentiate distractions from real priorities.

    • Find people (next step!) who can best support you.

Note: We’re using profit holistically here - but money is a real part of it. I know you have bills to pay and families to feed.

#3: People (your relationships, your how)

This is your source of activation.

It connects you to others (so you never work alone).

  • Start with self-awareness - understand your biases, habits, thinking traps, tendencies, and blind spots.

  • Develop your EQ by addressing your biggest gaps and changing your default settings.

  • Use it to:

    • Build better relationships.

    • Make measured (not reactive) decisions.

    • Empower your team and unleash their potential.

    • Get way further than you ever could on your own.

Pro Tip: Feedback is a gift you can get whenever you want - just ask.

Each one of these takes time to build (I can help with that).

The good news? You can invest in them right now, in the job you’re already in.
